lore and legend of the metaphysical value of amethyst gemstone. A violet form of quartz, amethyst (SiO2+Fe) has always been prized as a beautiful gemstone and master healer. Coloured by iron, amethyst tends to form geodes of densely packed short crystals all pointing inwards towards the center of the hollow. Colour varies from very dark, almost black, through purple to a delicate violet. Amethyst is calming and stabilizing to all areas, particularly the mind. It can be a useful stone to reduce restlessness, irritation and worry. Amethyst balances brow and crown chakras but can be used anywhere. Held or placed upon the forehead or above the crown, it is helpful for meditation.
